O que o Público Deseja que a Filantropia Financie?
In the first global Brunswick survey on public opinions about philanthropy, conducted in eight markets (both developed and less developed countries), respondents chose health as the top funding priority—followed by education, humanitarian aid, climate change, and economic growth. Among its additional points, the report concluded that contributions from philanthropists are viewed as less effective than those from NGOs/CSOs. I also found the following:
Philanthropy is seen as a positive force worldwide, with the most positive perceptions in low- and middle-income countries.
The most widespread criticism of philanthropy is the lack of understanding by donors of cultures outside their own—addressed through partnerships with local organizations and leaders.
The strongest support for philanthropy lies in its ability to fund complex and innovative ways to address critical problems; solutions that are linked to universal priorities such as health and education demonstrate the best benefits of donation.
More than one in five people have no opinion on the effectiveness of philanthropy, representing a communication opportunity for donors.
Respondents with a positive view of philanthropy believe that philanthropists can make such donations, thereby contributing to society, helping others and nonprofit organizations (despite the tax evasion motive), and that their funding can help combat poverty, inequality, and crime, as well as lift the poor, provide livelihoods, and improve their quality of life.
